A Time for Friends, Family and Holiday Spirit!
Let's face it, 2020 sucked but it also blew. There, I said it. Last year, I rang in 2020 on a balcony in Mexico with some champagne, good friends and the people I loved. 4 months later I was furloughed (then laid off) from a great job and trying to figure out my next move. This story of course can resonate to so many of us in the meeting & events industry. Being an eternal optimist, and as we close 2020, I wanted to take a moment to focus on some of the special moments that made this year bearable.
Of course I'd be remiss if I didn't highlight my fellow VMEA partners Jim and Paulette and the kinship and bond we have formed in starting this journey together. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we have all learned so much not only from each other, but from our members. We all freely admit that we can't wait to be able to meet again, but we also understand that the world has changed and virtual is here to stay. So all of us here at VMEA are committed to continuing to provide you with the resources you need as we all navigate this virtual world together.
I am thankful for my social bubble. Being an extrovert, I've always enjoyed a healthy social life and a robust travel schedule. This year looked a little different with video calls to those I'd normal travel to see, and weekly card games with the bubble. I am lucky that my best friend lives only a mile away from me, and that I have great neighbors who are always up for toasting s'mores in their fire pit. I am an avid camper and I am thankful to have had an oasis to go to a few times a month to enjoy nature and decompress, and I am so very thankful to have fell in love with a wonderful person who stood by my side through all of this. So while 2020 looked a bit different, I still remain thankful for all I have been able to enjoy.
As we go through the holidays, what are you thankful for? How will you spend your holiday and make them merry and bright? However you spend it, we at VMEA wish you a very happy and health holiday season.
